The Collegiate Competitions will be held at KU in Lawrence on November 1, 2026. The Amateur Adults Competition is on October 31, 2026. The cost is $35.00 per solo entry, and $20.00 per chamber music member. The deadline for registration is Mon. October 5, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Registration will be online and can be paid through PayPal, or a check (payable to KMTA) can be mailed to Emily Yeh.
KMTA Collegiate Competitions are available for piano solo (Freshman/Sophomore, Junior/Senior, and Graduate groups), chamber music, and instrumental solo.
For piano solo, each student is required to perform a minimum of two compositions of contrasting styles/periods by two different composers and is allowed to perform for a maximum of 15 minutes. All pieces must be performed from memory for piano solo.
The KMTA Collegiate Chamber Music Competition must consist of at least three performers and may have no more than six performers. The repertoire performed for the Chamber Music Competition and Instrumental Solo must consist of two compositions in contrasting styles/periods by two different composers. Up to 15 minutes will be allotted for adjudication. Memorization is optional for chamber music and instrumental solo.
The Kansas MTNA Young Artist Competition registration deadline is September 9, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Register at the MTNA website. MTNA registration: https://www.mtna.org/
The Kansas MTNA Young Artist Piano Winner will receive an award of $400, and the KMTA Freshman/Sophomore, Junior/Senior, and Graduate Piano Winners will receive an award of $100 each.

KMTA Amateur Adults Competitions are open to adults 19 years and older without professional degrees in Music. Applicants must not derive their principal source of income from public performances or piano teaching. Students must be taught by a teacher who maintains a studio in Kansas.
Repertoire Requirements:

Piano Concerti and simplified arrangements are not allowed in the competition.
Memorization is strongly encouraged but not required.
Performance time: 10 minutes
Amateur Adults do not have a district audition. Enter the State Competition directly.
