Sally Buxton is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) with the Music Teachers National Association who has operated an independent piano studio for over 40 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. She has served on the board of the Wichita Area Piano Teachers League (WAPTL), is a past -president of the Wichita Metropolitan Music Teachers Association (WMMTA) and the Kansas Music Teachers Association (KMTA). She currently serves on the boards of both Associations.
She has been instrumental in editing and distributing the KMTA "Music Progressions" Curriculum that provides a broad-based theory, listening, and performance evaluation for students, and guides teachers and students through 10 levels of college-preparatory materials which also equip hobbyist students with tools for learning on their own, providing creative opportunities for all students along their journey.
She is the organist for St. Michael's Western Rite Orthodox Christian Church in Wichita. She has co-chaired many community festivals, including the WMMTA summer 2008 "Music Olympics," the 2009 "World Music Festival" at the Museum of World Treasures, and the spring 2010 "Back to the Future" festival which celebrated the history of the piano with the Piano Technician's Guild.
Mrs. Buxton's studio is located in her home in Bel Aire, Kansas, a northeast suburb of Wichita. She teaches private 30 or 45-minute lessons, group theory & performance classes, and summer music camps.
Her students perform in care-home recitals, studio recitals, KMTA auditions, Kansas High School Activities Association festivals, WMMTA festivals, and KMTA Music Progressions. Students are also encouraged and aided in their efforts to play for their churches and schools.
