Teacher Awards

The Kansas Music Teachers Association presents two awards each year to members who are making contributions to our state organization and to the music profession at large. The Outstanding Teacher Award focuses on the teaching aspect of a member's role in his or her community, while the Outstanding Service Award focuses on the service which a member has offered to the music teachers association at the local, state, or national level.

Members may receive either award more than once. Nominations may be made by anyone within the teacher's sphere of influence.

Outstanding Teacher Award

  • One award may be given per year
  • Must be an active KMTA member
  • May be nominated by anyone: other teacher, local association, piano parent, board member, community member
  • Considered to be a more "local" award: a nominee who is active on the local level may receive this award, whether or not he/she has ever served on the state board
  • Could be specifically linked to one event or activity but is not limited to such
  • Is geared especially toward the teaching aspect of the teacher's role
  • May be received more than once by a teacher

Outstanding Service Award

  • One award may be given per year
  • Must be an active KMTA member

  • Considered to be a more "state" or "national" award: the winner should be someone who has made significant contributions to the state organization or to MTNA or to the music profession at large.
  • Is geared especially toward the service aspect of the teacher's role
  • May be received more than once by a teacher

Nominating A Member

Anyone may nominate a teacher for the Outstanding Teacher Award: another teacher, a local teaching association, a parent, a board member, or a member of the teacher's community. Nominations for Outstanding Service Award must come from local associations affiliated with KMTA or from a KMTA board member.

We have eliminated the "secret nomination" process. Now, we ask the individual or association making a nomination to verify the facts with the nominee. This helps ensure the accuracy of the information we receive.

Before you begin the nomination process, please verify with the teacher that he or she is a member of KMTA. Then, the teacher can help you complete the information on the nomination form, which you can download from this website. You may attach one page of supporting material with the form. Please feel free to include your personal opinions regarding the teacher, as well as those of any other people who would like to offer their support for the nomination.

Postmark deadline for all nominations is April 14, 2014. No late nominations will be accepted.
